When you try to install an Autodesk 2015 suite, you receive this error during the install process: The install then rolls back and you are informed that some products failed to install: If you look at the setup log for the suite you will see an error similar to the following: InstallAutodesk® BIM 360™ Add-in for Revit® 2015FailedInstallation aborted, Result=1603
Back in November I got the Waves TrueVerb for free from their black Friday deal. For the last week and a half, I've been trying to get it to install.
Causes:
The Autodesk BIM 360 Add-in is already installed on the computer and it has been updated to a newer version than the one included in the suite installer. For example, the R1 update has been installed: The BIM 360 Add-in is included with several Autodesk programs, so you need to look at the setup log to determine which one is causing the error.
Solution:
There are a couple of ways to get around this error. First, you can simply uninstall the Autodesk BIM 360 <ProductName> 2015 Add-in 64 bit from Control Panel: Once it has been uninstalled, run the suite installer again and you will not get the error. If there are multiple Autodesk BIM 360 Add-ins installed you may get the error with each one, so uninstall the add-in for each program that you will be installing with the suite installer. Refer to BIM 360 Add-in install error: 'A newer version of this software is already installed' for more details. The other option is to prevent the Autodesk BIM 360 Add-in from installing. To do that, run the suite installer again. On the screen immediately after the one where you enter the serial number and product key, it will show a list of the software that is going to be installed. Click just below the program causing the error (the text will change to Click to open and configure when you hover the mouse cursor over that spot) to open the custom install options. Uncheck the box next to Autodesk BIM 360 Add-in for <ProductName> 2015, then click on Click to close and return to product list at the top of the window. Repeat those steps for any other programs in the suite that include the BIM 360 Add-in. Continue with the install as normal and you will not get the error message. Below is an example for Revit 2015: Note: You will not get this error if you use the standalone product installer, just with the suite installer. The standalone product installer will detect that there is already a newer version of the Autodesk BIM 360 Add-in installed and it will automatically exclude it from installing again. For example, here is what you will see with the Revit 2015 installer if a newer version of the BIM 360 Add-in for Revit 2015 is already installed:
Products:
Building Design Suite; Navisworks Manage; Navisworks Simulate; Revit;
